Customers rave about the beautiful chips, highlighting their crispiness and delightful flavor.

The Fish Box, featuring generous portions of cod and a mountain of chips, is often noted for its incredible value.

The steak pie receives accolades as one of the best in town, loved for its rich taste and hearty portion.

Many patrons enjoy the delightful sweetness of the English curry sauce, pairing it perfectly with various dishes.

The welcoming smiles and friendly service from the staff leave a lasting impression, making visits feel personal and cherished.

Most Disliked

Some reviews mention that the mushy peas lack seasoning and can be a bit firm, which may not suit everyone’s palate.

While the chips are generally loved, a few have commented that they are on the skinnier side, preferring a chunkier style.

A handful of visitors have noticed the typical quality of certain items, like sausages, which while flavorful, may not stand out enough compared to the fish.

A few diners expressed a desire for more seasoning or variety in the veggie options offered on the menu. Although the seafood shines, some feel that the non-fish offerings can be less adventurous.

Reviewing on behalf of The Chippy Tour, Church Street Chippy had been recommended to me several times, so it was time to visit. Approaching the shop, it was clear to see it’s very popular, with people queuing both inside and out. The shop was spotlessly clean and tidy, and the staff were friendly and polite. Noticing the food boxes (aka munch boxes), I opted for the Fish Box and a separate battered Spam fritter. The Fish Box proved to be an incredible value, offering two good-sized, tasty, and fresh pieces of cod in a light, crispy, and flavorful batter. There was a mountain of chips, which were a little skinny, but with great flavour. The two small sausages were fairly typical but full of flavour, and the inclusion of breaded onion rings was a nice touch. The sweet English curry sauce had a pleasant consistency and a slight kick, while the gravy was dark, thick, and carried a subtle beefy taste. The mushy peas were dense, with some slightly firm peas in there and little in the way of seasoning, which is a good thing. Spam fritters are notoriously challenging to get right due to their high fat content, but it was done perfectly here. Overall, it’s easy to see why this chippy is so popular within the community. 🟠 Cooking in: Oil 🟠 Payment: Cash or Card 🟠 Hygiene Rating: 4 🟠 Fish Reviewed: Cod 🎥 See the full video review on The Chippy Tour YouTube channel

Not many good traditional chip shops around, most taste like frozen chips. Been this chippy a couple of times now, the chips are bang on and the steak pie one of the best ive had for a while. Will be revisiting this chip shop.
